IGA’s online grocery store is now available for the blind and for people who suffer from amblyopia

MONTREAL, dec 16th. /CNW Telbec/ - Thanks to some important improvement made on IGA’s e-commerce platform, its online grocery store is now available for the blind and for people who suffer from amblyopia which means that they will now be able to make a complete order online.

"We are glad that the people in charge at IGA have answered our roll-call. It was essential to fulfill the need of those who live with a visual handicap to help them gain more autonomy", said Mrs. Mireille Manavella from the Regroupement des aveugles et amblyopes du Québec (RAAQ) www.raaq.qc.ca.

The website now follows the major rules of accessibility of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the W3C. Therefore, users who own a screen reader such as Jaws or Windows Eyes can make an order online.

Orckestra (www.orckestra.com), which recently acquired the expertise required in Web accessibility, has been commissioned in 2008 for the development of the online grocery store, as well as for the recent additional changes in term of accessibility. These improvements couldn’t have happened without the help of Jean-Marie d’Amours and Émile Ouellet from l’Institut Nazareth, and Louis-Braille. They have allowed testing the changes during the process to insure the system’s effectiveness.
