Database Administrator

Under the supervision of the IT Manager, as a member of the infrastructure team, the data base administrator acts as an integration administrator and a technical advisor in terms of initiatives support, the evolution, the maintenance et the production. He/she ensures the quality of all the integration projects under his responsibilities and ensures that the deliveries are within the project timeline, the architectural guidelines and the business and functional requirements.

Responsabilités

Daily

  • Use software or write scripts to watch over the systems performance
  • Plan timeline for the data base’s updates and migrations
  • Ensure the DBA support in a production and development environment in order to decrease the systems stops and ensure enough time availability for the systems regarding the business needs
  • Verify on a regular basis the integrity of the data bases according to the established plans and do the corrections if need be
  • Oversee the systems in order to identify and correct issues
  • Ensure the SQL data bases maintenance
  • Create store procedure
  • Create View
  • Manage and authenticate results
  • Act as a data base integrator for the technology architecture team for different queries
  • Develop, set up and share standard practices and tools to ensure that the guidelines and the architectural norms are usable in his field of responsibilities
  • Set up to date with the newest technologies
  • Act as a technical advisor for his team and the other departments and ensure a third and second level of support
  • Act as a technical advisor for Orckestra’s clients and offer them an advisor support
  • Oversee the correct use of the approved and defined technical norms and methods for his/her field of responsibilities
  • Supervise and support the Infrastructure & Development team
  • Bring assistance as a member of a team ensuring support on regular intervals
  • Participate in the MSSQL set up, configuration, diagnosis, maintenance and updates
  • Manage the access to the data bases resources (security) and the documentation
  • Do the back-up copies and ensure their reliability
  • Participate in a 24/7 support rotation

Projects/Initiative

  • Understand the business and functional requirements of the project, the architecture of the targeted solution and the solution’s integrated and detailed design
  • Achieve the detailed integration of the solutions and the analysis, produce the related documentation and give recommendations to the Architect
  • Resolve technical problems
  • Participate to the responsibility transfer with the system administrator – Infrastructure as well as with the technician providing the required documentation and/or other deliverables in accordance with what was planned for all the developed solutions
  • Produce the deliverables in regards to the technical tests (units, integration, system, efficiency, etc.)
  • Take part in the set up activities and provide postproduction support
  • Take part in the production start-up activities and provide support to the team

Exigences

Essentials

  • At least 5 years experience in technology infrastructure
  • 2 to 3 years experience as a data base administrator with MSSQL 2000, 2005 and 2008
  • Experience as a DBA second level infrastructure support
  • Bilingual, French and English, both spoken and written
  • Available to go to Orckestra’s clients as an expert advisor

Skills

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft MSSQL environments
  • Good knowledge Windows 2000, 2003, 2008
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft operating systems
  • Knowledge of the server equipment and the infrastructure material components
  • Knowledge of IT security and the tools and technologies available
  • Knowledge of TSQL, DTS, SSIS, SSRS and SSAS programming
  • SQL requests optimization
  • Clustering and Failover knowledge
  • Knowledge of replication (Mirroring, SQL Log Shipping)
